How to use the business name generator
- Choose your type of business, so the ideas use words that fit it.
- Optionally, add a word to include: your first name, your street, your town or something you love.
- Tap the names you like to add them to your shortlist, and press More ideas for a fresh batch.
- Copy your shortlist, sleep on it, and say the favorites out loud.
What makes a good business name
- Easy to say and spell. People should be able to tell a friend and find you online.
- Short. It has to fit on a banner, a receipt, a cup and a social handle.
- Room to grow. “Maya’s Cupcakes” is stuck if you start selling bread; “Maya’s Bakehouse” isn’t.
- Distinct. Avoid names close to another business in your area or your category.
Check the name is available
- Search the USPTO trademark database for the name and similar ones.
- Search your state’s business name registry (usually on the Secretary of State’s website).
- Check the domain and the social handles you’ll want.
- If you’ll trade under a name that isn’t your legal name, you may need to register it as a DBA locally.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a business name?
Pick something short, easy to say and spell, and clear about what you sell or how it feels. Say it out loud, and make sure it still works if you add products later.
Are these names available to use?
The generator doesn’t check. Search the USPTO trademark database and your state’s business name registry, and look for a matching domain and social handles before you commit.
Can I use my own name in the business name?
Yes. Type it in the word box and it’s woven into the ideas, like “Maya’s Bakehouse”.
